Undertone is a same-condition comparison
Do not compare a light warm color with a deep cool color, or a muted color with a bright one. You would not know whether the difference came from temperature, value, or chroma. Each pair should change temperature while keeping other properties reasonably close.
Try these four pairs in natural light
Cream vs cool white
Cream leans warm and cool white leans blue. Ask which is more harmonious, not which makes you look paler.
Coral vs rose pink
Choose two pinks at a similar value. Coral leans yellow-orange; rose leans blue-violet.
Warm gold vs silver
Use metals with similar shine. Do not compare matte antique gold with mirror-bright silver.
Olive vs blue-green
Green is a useful check because it reduces the bias of already liking pink.
Photograph every pair from the same angle with fixed exposure, then review all four groups together.
Observe these changes
A better color should not amplify redness, yellowness, or gray areas.
Watch whether under-eye, smile-line, and mouth-corner shadows suddenly deepen.
Eyes and lips should look clearer without the fabric appearing first.
Your gaze should move naturally from face to clothing rather than stopping sharply at the jaw.
These clues cannot decide undertone alone
Wrist veins
Skin thickness, ambient light, and vein depth change what you see.
How you tan
Sun response involves melanin and does not map directly to undertone.
Gold or silver preference
Personal style preference may not match what makes the face most balanced.
Fair skin is cool
Temperature and value are separate. Any skin depth can be warm, cool, or near neutral.
After temperature, compare depth and clarity
Warm does not automatically mean Spring; it may indicate Autumn. Cool does not automatically mean Summer; it may indicate Winter. Next compare how much depth, chroma, and contrast you support.
